The Rebel Digital cameras use a very simple remote cable. You can either buy one from Canon for about
$40 or you can spend < $10 and make one. What you'll need are:
![]() The remote is quite simple. The circuitry is all in the camera. To trip the shutter just short the sleeve and the tip of the 2.5mm plug. To set exposure/focus short the sleeve and the ring on the plug. It's that simple. So, I've put two push-buttons on my project box (red and black). One shorts the sleeve/ring and one shorts the sleeve/tip. In parallel with the second (the shutter button) I've put in an on/off rocker for 'bulb' exposures. That's about it. As with all my stuff I put some velcro on the back to hold it onto a tripod leg.
