Replacing the cheap azimuth adjustment knobs
The knobs that come with the HEQ5 are very cheap. They work; but that's about all. The threaded part is very soft and bends easily and the knobs are rather small and hard to grip with even the thinnest gloves on. In Canada, gloves are needed at times. This being the case I decided to replace the knobs with something a bit more useable and a bit 'prettier'.

The knobs themselves were turned out of aluminum and knurled. Then while in the lathe they were drilled and tapped for the M6x1.0 thread of the mount. Then a hole was drilled for a set-screw. The rod was inserted and the set-screw tightened down WELL. The length of the rod was cut 12mm longer than the original.

These knobs are nice looking, have a nice positive grip with lots of area and the good quality threaded rod I used is much better than the original.
