There comes a time in everyone's life where you want to set your scope on a permanent pier and control it from a nice warm room. The first step in this is controlling the scope nicely. I've managed to get an older version of XEphem working with my HEQ5 along with Stefan's 'lx200ctl' software available at http://www.simg.de/lx200ctl/index.e.html. To do this I installed xephem-3.5.2-2plf.i586.rpm on my Mandrake 10.1 system and then installed the Linux binaries from Stefan. His website covers the installation/starting of the software nicely so I won't get into it here. Once lx200ctl is running, right-clicking on an object in XEphem will give you a drop-down menu; select Telescope Goto and then in lx200ctl click on 'XEphem Goto' and the telescope will slew to the new object. You can also guide and centre with the software or just enter an RA/Dec and tell it to goto. Well done Stefan! Back to the HEQ5 Project page Back to Ozzzy's Astronomy page |
